Because these scanners are SO configurable, and each use and location is different, we do not offer major recommendations on tweaks, it's fun to figure them out on your own. We do however offer a few pieces of information.
RSSI Setting
The radio has an RSSI setting (Relative Signal Strength Indicator settings for the Signal Meter on the display). We have found the default settings to show a strong signal, when it is weak and therefore feel the defaults should be changed to the following: 720 / 680 / 620 / 540 / 450. We feel this will give a better idea of true relative signal strength.
Discriminator Tap
Discriminator tap mods are not as necessary on the Pro 106/197 as it is on other scanners as the USB programming cable is capable of using a CCDump mode that dumps formated data to the computer for use by software packages to decode. However, with this said, there are a few systems that are not decoded by the radio itself, and therefore a raw dump of data recieved by the radio can be nice. In these situations a discriminator tap is a cool thing to have. The following links can be used to learn more.
